 Jim Muckle

Jim Muckle CD, CAEN, CPF, MBA

What’s in it for you? Workload, stress-related absenteeism and disability, and elder care continue to be issues in many of today’s workplaces. In addition, many of us are Knowledge Professionals – we make our workplace contributions by sorting and understanding information, and by applying that understanding to produce bottom-line results. In other words, many of us do most of our work with our brains.

Traditional, behaviour-based methods of addressing workplace issues have been overtaken by our growing understanding of the brain. Every behaviour has a brain state behind it. Focusing on behaviours continues to be useful. But leading and managing with the brain in mind will give you and your colleagues faster and better bottom-line results.

If building capacity, increasing motivation and engagement, reducing stress, and improving productivity are among the results you want to produce, then learning to live, learn and work with the brain in mind will make a useful difference for and your team.

What can he contribute? Jim is a specialist in the practical application of our growing understanding of the brain and how we learn, think, remember and make decisions. He is professionally certified in Applied Educational Neuroscience. In addition to being a Certified Professional Facilitator, he has trained with Harrison Owen, the founder of Open Space facilitation technology. Jim has integrated his practical, results-oriented work with the brain into various otherwise behaviour-based group processes to be able to offer more advanced, brain-based group facilitation services. He designs and facilitates brain-friendly group processes that:

  • Establish or re-establish the team-based identification of issues, priorities and recommended actions.
  • Encourage and support high levels of participation and engagement, and tap more of the experience and perspectives of group members.
  • Foster the development of more effective communication and decision-making.
  • Generate shared ownership of, and commitment to, change strategies and strategic, business, and day-to-day action plans.
  • Clarify responsibility for individual elements of these plans.

What has he done? Jim’s very brain-friendly and results-oriented group facilitation projects have ranged from facilitating small groups for less than a day to leading a team of five facilitators in the design and delivery of a 6-day process involving numerous and diverse local, regional and national stakeholders. Most of his business, government and not-for-profit facilitation projects have involved leading teams of 2 to 4 facilitators, and using tailored and sometimes bilingual 2 to 3-day processes to meet the specific needs of 60 to 150 participants.

Jim is the author or editor of several practical workshop handbooks. He is the author of MUCKLE Mapping (DVD Program), and the co-author (with Howard Berg, World’s Fastest Reader – Guinness) of Learning Faster & Better (DVD Program). Jim is also the author of The Ultimate Brain Book.
