Updates from Africa Region

Growth in Membership and Chapters

The region has seen phenomenal growth this year and we currently have around 80 members from 17 countries in all sub-regions of the continent, as well as five chapters (in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Togo and Uganda) with several other potential new ones in the coming months.

Development of Africa Leadership Team

A leadership team now acts as the key strategic driver for the region; it is made up of a group of volunteers representing the different chapters and regions, as well as people who are supporting with communications work, the regional director and a membership co-ordinator.  Members of the team also participate actively in the broader organisation by participating in Global Teams, such as the ones co-ordinating the Facilitation Impact Awards, International Facilitation Week, etc.

Preparations for Mombasa Conference

This year’s Africa Facilitation Conference is being hosted by Pwani Association of Facilitators in Mombasa, Kenya, from 17th-20th October 2018.  Bookings are ongoing and the programme is starting to take shape with an exciting range of sessions and vast diversity of participants from all over the region and beyond.

Information about the Conference can be found here and/or by contacting pwanifacilitators@gmail.com

Facilitation Impact Awards

Congratulations to Kofi Kumodzi from Togo who has won his second Award and this time is one of only four Platinum winners globally for his work with the Ordre National des Architectes Togo (ONAT). More details can be read about the work here and general information about FIA can be read here. Several of our members also participated as volunteer evaluators and by supporting the project co-ordination team.

Other Activities

Most chapters have been meeting on a regular basis and using these opportunities for networking and sharing, whilst there are also regular online meetings for all members, which take place approximately every 2 months.  The next Africa-wide online meeting is on Weds 3rd October 2018.   Members also engage in regular information-sharing and communications through various whatsapp groups – currently the following groups exist: Africa-wide, West Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.

For more information about any of these activities, please contact rep.africa@iaf-world.org
