We rely on facilitation tools and techniques to help our clients. They are necessary but not sufficient. To use tools and techniques most effectively, we need a theory that integrates and guides which tools and techniques we use, and how and when we use them. 

Join Roger Schwarz in this session as we explore how using theory can help you:

• design facilitations
• identify in-real time what is happening in the group
• decide where, when, and how to intervene with the group
• avoid the group using you inappropriately to interact with each other
• be more transparent and increase client understanding and commitment
• understand and shift the theory you are currently and unconsciously operating from that reduces your effectiveness, especially in challenging situations

The session includes practices to experiment with the benefits of using theory and ample time for discussion and your questions. Throughout the session, we will use the Mutual Learning approach, the theory underlying The Skilled Facilitator approach to illustrate how you can improve your practice.
