Conversation in the Family of Facilitators

We are experts in facilitating dialogue in other people’s organisations, but what about in the most sacred organization – our own family?

When we bring workplace techniques into the home, it can often backfire. Have you ever done your partner’s psychometric profile? Tried to have a family meeting? Asked your kids to rethink their strategy?

Yet this is a time when the families of facilitators have a lot to talk about. Our economy has been shaken. Our careers are on a detour. Our confidence is shaken. And many of us, see ourselves on a rollercoaster of shock, introspection, stress, reinvention, denial, action… – all of which is not easy for our kids to grasp and our partners to deal with.

If you are also looking for ways to be resilient as a family, this could be for you.

Having advocated team dialogue for years, the crisis has forced me to bring the tools home and adapt them for the dinner table. What started as a desperate prototype, has given way to healthier way to be together in confinement. These things helped us, and I think they could be helpful for your intimate relations too.

In this 90 minute session, we will explore three family activities, which you can try at home. Feel free to logon with your partners, or on your own, as we explore:

  • Dinner conversation (based on stimulating questions)
  • Family reflection (based on agile retrospective process)
  • Shared book making (based on appreciative inquiry)

Participants will receive a set of Stimulating Conversation Dice that can be downloaded and put together by your kids – we hope you will try them, and share how they work.

The session will be facilitated by Jeffer London, founder of stimulatingconversation.org, IAF board member, team facilitator, and author of articles on dialogue, group-work and engagement.
