What is the plan?
On October 29-30th 2020, the International Association of Facilitators is organising the Global Facilitation Summit 2020, aiming to gather more that 500 facilitators worldwide. The Summit will attract people working in many different fields such as agile facilitators and coaches, process facilitators and consultants, visual practitioners, facilitative leaders and communities of internal facilitators in organisations. The participants will come from companies, public sector and not-for-profit organisations, and usually many clients too. All of this will take place in Stockholm, Sweden as a non-profit event. We want the Global Facilitation Summit 2020 to inspire facilitators from all over the world, to offer learning and thinking and dialogue around the future of facilitation. Prior to the Summit, we will host ‘Jump-start’ pre-Summit events October 27-28th, 2020.

What is a Jump-Start event?
Prior to the Summit, we will host a range of certifications, trainings, workshops and deep-dives for those that want to get more out of their time while learning in Stockholm. They will be a range of one to two days in length dependent on the topic.

What are we looking for?
We just might be looking for you! We are looking for a truly global representation of the following topics and keywords and we want you build a workshop suggestion from these topics.

  1. Facili-what?
    Newbies, rookies, basics, starter kits
    What is facilitation? How do you go from leading workshops to being a facilitator?
  2. Facilitation in 2040, Humans 4.0.
    What is new? what is next? What does the research indicate about the future?
    How will humans be collaborating and how will that affect and shape what we do as facilitators?
  3. Beyond words: Change from within.
    Reflection, looking inwards, mindfulness
    How do we access our true selves and transform our practice?
  4. Changing the Conversation
    Engagement and dialogue in the political world, social justice, climate change, global economy
    How are we as facilitators contributing to changing the conversation? What lessons have we learned doing so? And what is at stake?
  5. There is no I in TEAM!
    Leadership, team-based orgs, the facilitative leader
    How can facilitation help teams and leaders prepare for the complexity they are facing? 
  6. Dare to disrupt!
    Complexity, control & chaos, mindset, innovation
    How can we help organisations continue to challenge themselves so they can grow and innovate? How provocative can a facilitator be? How can we disrupt ourselves?
  7. Our community of facilitators
    Accessibility, Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging
    What does a community look like where we all feel at home? What can we achieve together?
  8. Make a change! Make a difference!
    Stories, the impact of facilitation, results

    Can you share and facilitate learnings about the impact and result of facilitation? The format for this stream is 15 minute presentations. 

How should a workshop at the Global Facilitation Summit be designed?
The goal is to model exceptional facilitation so participants can apply it to their practice. We are open to creatively exploring facilitation so be sure to think through our key global learning topics and share how you’d like to make your mark. If you aren’t familiar with the IAF Core Competencies, get to know them too as we want to make sure all workshops are highly regarded and highly valuable for a global audience.
The workshops should be 90 minutes or 3 hours in length for the Summit and one or two days for the Jump-Start events.

Outcome Notifications - Wednesday, March 25th, 2020

This is what we need from you to consider your proposal
Complete one form per proposed session with all the information required (no more than two submissions per presenter). Each proposal requires a separate submission (one per form), sessions cannot be submitted together.

  • Workshop title as it would appear in Summit programme
  • Workshop summary as it would appear in Summit programme (max 150 words)
  • IAF Core Competencies: which would your workshop address?
  • Which learning track does your proposal support and how?
  • What level of facilitation experience does your workshop address?
  • Have you presented this at previous conferences?
  • Describe the flow and format of your suggested workshop
  • Describe yourself as the workshop leader as it would appear in the Summit programme (max 150 words)
  • Special requirements for this workshop
  • Reference request

Proposal Selection Criteria
Proposals will be reviewed by members of the Summit Planning Committee using the following criteria.

Jump Start Workshop
A compensation will be provided for one-day and two-day wokshops in the Jump Start program. Further details to follow. 
Jump Start workshop leaders will receive a discounted speaker registration rates,
and must register by Thursday, April 9th, 2020 at 5:00 PM (EST).

Main Summit Worshops
No compensation will be provided for 90 minutes or half day conference workshops.
Summit workshop leaders will also receive a discounted speaker registration rates,
and must register by Thursday, April 9th, 2020 at 5:00 PM (EST).
