To our knowledge, this is the first paper using ToP(TM) (Technology of Participation) facilitation methods published in the academic healthcare literature. It thus represents an important landmark in facilitation practice. This paper, authored by clinicians from the British Columbia Provincial Bleeding Disorders Program, reports the results of a focus group designed, facilitated and analyzed by CPF facilitator Helen Leask PhD. The purpose of the focus group was to identify the roles and processes within the clinic that might be contributing to the recent reduction in bleeding rates seen in the clinic's patients. The results suggested that shared decision-making by the team that focused on patient autonomy was underpinning the dramatic clinical success.
