How do you spark deeper insights with your groups -- online or face-to-face? The Breakthrough Arc is an 8-step framework for designing group experiences that create the conditions for groups to go deeper, challenge limiting beliefs, and spark insights. The framework draws from neuroscience, psychology, and group dynamics, to create psychological safety, trust, and connection. It has been road-tested with more than 1300 online professionals.
Gwyn shared with us the framework and the research that supports it, with real-life examples, and actionable advice.
The first session of 2023 was hosted by the IAF Italy chapter. Thank you Nicola and Federico for this great session.
Steve Yorkstone and Svein Are work together to develop a model to support facilitation. Working as peer mentors, they share their experiences on facilitation every week through a YouTube vlog. In our June session we heard their story, understood their model, and heard what they’ve learnt through the process. Thanks Steve & Svein Are!

Living life creatively can bring happiness, joy and excitement to our lives. It can take us out of ourselves and orient us towards the social world in positive ways, especially if we can allow ourselves to become more open and curious. We thank Martina Carroll for this session on her life as a facilitator.
On the 3rd of February, 2022, we had John Varney, who expanded on his book, “Leadership as meaning-Making – Take the Hero’s Journey to Transformation”. Based on his experience over 40 years, when he founded and ran the Centre for Management Creativity and its residential centre at High Trenhouse, he asked, “Is the developmental dimension of facilitation critical to the future of humanity?”
Looking back & moving forward!

IAF EME Facilitation Lounge
In this session we explored further with Jeffer London the ‘elevator pitch’, which is the concept of being able to state your entire message in the time it takes to go up a few floors in an elevator.
In this creative and interactive workshop presented by Tamara Eberle, Shawna Eberle and Ingrid Liil we created our own brand stories and figured out how to better communicate our values. This was an opportunity to pause and consider: How can I offer real value right now? How can I talk about what I do and how I do it in a way that will resonate for my clients? What is the story I need to tell that will help my potential customers understand how I can help?
No previous drawing skills were required and we got to learn, play and experiment in this session. We drew together with Rosanna von Sacken, we learnt the basics to get us started to include drawings for our meeings, trainings and workshops.
The aim of our second episode of the Facilitation Lounge with John Kingsley Cornwell, Monica Atim and Basil Manning was to enable participants to internalise the IAF Core Competences to Honour and Recognise diversity, ensuring inclusivity.
